We all like Horror Movies because everyone likes a few Jump Scares every now and then,
but what if I told you that horror movies have more to it than just trying to scare people with the sudden sound effects and ugly faces?                                                                               Yes, Horror movies are very important whether or not they scare you.

Firstly, what is horror? Horror is when your sibling scares the shit out of you by hiding behind the door and jumps at you when you enter the dead zone. Horror is when your road trip plan with friends get cancelled at the last moment. Horror is opening your refrigerator to find your hidden desert gone. You feel it right? That is exactly what horror flick directors try to do. They try to give your heart the feeling of skipping a beat and that’s really, really tricky because all they have is a screen. The movie should indulge its audience deep into its plot in order to make them feel the horror. That’s where it gets difficult because the directors have to create the right atmosphere and mood with the sound design, production design, CGI etc. The characters should be well depicted for us so that we care about them. The ongoing music should be precise so that the right emotion is triggered while watching the movie. If all this works well, then maybe it succeeds to scare.

It’s not necessary that a horror flick should have ghosts. Movies like Hush, Eden Lake, Triangle succeed in making our jaws drop and give a perfect horror and edge of the seat experience. It all comes down to the intellect of the director.

If the Director delivers a movie with all the perfect nuances of a scary, nail-biting film then he/she is capable of making different and better movies in future. Horror is a tough genre to master, and any director who comes even a bit close to it can make miracles in the industry. It’s already started with JAMES WAN ( known for The Conjuring franchise, Insidious franchise, SAW) now directing AQUAMAN, a DC superhero flick. DAVID SANDBERG who started small with just short horror films, is now directing SHAZAM for DC universe after his latest Annabelle 2. His short horror film “lights out” hit the charts and he won global awards after which Hollywood directors got an eye on him.

This is why Horror genre is important for us to enjoy not only the horror flicks but every possible genre out there. And let’s get real, without horror there will always be something lacking. It’s a feeling which we usually curse but the movie industry has made us enjoy it and left us wanting for more.
